Nomads Pushing For Top Spot
Enjoying their league best start for many years are Nomads, now lying second after a big win against last year’s champions, Lodge Farmers. After Farmers opened with a modest first leg score, Nomads’ response gave them an eight pin lead and they built on that by winning leg two to increase their lead to 14 pins. Farmers then halved the third leg but that was their extent of their fight back as Nomads extended their pin advantage to 18 pins after leg four to effectively win the game. And when left only 38 pins in their last leg to win the game, easily made this by scoring 68 pins, the highest leg score of the game. Top scorers for Nomads were skipper Alan Cummings with 37, Geoff Loat 36 and Dave Maule 35. In reply Lodge Farmers best scores came from Sue Morris with 32 and 31 each from Frank Morris & Paul Cotton.
It was a much closer game between Jumbo Jets and C&G Show. C&G took a five pin lead after leg one which Jets reduced to a single pin after leg two. The third leg saw C&G build their lead to seven pins only for Jets to cut that lead for the second time to just one pin in leg four. Bowling the last leg first, C&G then scored 63 pins, their best leg score of the game, to leave Jumbo Jets wanting 65 to win the match. With opening bowler Rich Johnston making a 14 pin stack, this boosted Jets hopes and with regular good scores from the rest of the team scored 68 to take the game. Johnston finished with 35 pins and Dave Badsey 33 but top scoring was Darren Summers with 36. For C&G Show Paul Hollis made 35, Paul O’Neil 34, and Dave Orton, James Pinner, Angela Guest & Neil Jay 30 apiece.
