Red Hot ‘The Borough’

Thursday 5 November 2026

After suffering two consecutive losses by very narrow margins, The Borough roared back to register the highest team score of the season and collect maximum points at the expense of Nomads.

They took each of the first four legs comfortably to lead at that point by 50 pins. Shell shocked Nomads then found then some form to register their game’s best leg score of 65 pins. But it left The Borough needing only 16 to win the game which having been quickly achieved, went on for good measure, to top that Nomads’ last leg score and collect maximum points.

In-form Scott Few (incl 14 stack) and Ryan Forman (15 stack) both finished with 45 pins for The Borough  and Steve Court made 40.

Best for Nomads came from Andrew Coombes with 37, Mac Eaton 32, and Eddie Upright 31.

Engineers overcame stiff resistance from Jumbo Jet Set in a high scoring and close game. Jumbo Jets took the first three legs to lead by 13 pins and looked favourites to win. But after the fourth leg the game was back to all square and the game’s spoils rested on the fifth leg scores. Bowling first, Jumbo Jets set Engineers only a modest total of 60 to win but it took their last bowler to get them over the line.

Engineers had Andy Clewlow making 45 (14 & 10), Joe Kelso 42 (14), and Craig Sears 34. Jumbo Jets best were Richard Johnston 43 (14 stack), and Dave Badsey & Mick Stanton 35 each.

C&G Show were unable to build on last week’s win, with only nine bowlers, when they faced table topping Lodge Farmers. The Farmers were in front by 20 pins after leg two before opening the door with a low score in leg three for to allow C&G to take advantage and reduce their deficit to ten pins. Lodge Farmers though narrowly took leg four to increase their lead to 13 pins before posting a last leg total of 63 pins. Left 77 pins to win, C&G rarely promised to make that total and were also unable to win the last leg to earn a consolation point.

Tim Jones (36); Chris Angel (35); and Lynne Pemberton & Ron Drake (33 each) bowled well for Lodge Farmers.

For C&G Show, Angela Guest, Paul Hollis and Lily Orton made 34, 32 & 31 respectively.

After this week’s games, Scott Few and Ryan Forman (both of The Borough) and Andy Clewlow (Engineers), all with 45 pins, now share the best individual game score of the season. Andy Clewlow’s score built on a ‘flopper’ (first ball nine) in a stack of 14.
