C&G Show’s Nine Prosper

Wednesday 28 October 2026

It is not often that a team, playing one team member short, comes away with a win. But C&G did just that for their first win of the season when overcoming The Borough who have now had consecutive closely contested games.

C&G took a seven pin lead after leg one before extending their advantage after leg two to 21 pins. In leg three, The Borough produced the best leg score of the game - 72 pins. In reply C&G mustered only 50 pins to squander their early lead and indeed found themselves adrift by a single pin. After leg four though, C&G had retaken the lead if only by a single pin. And when The Borough managed only 52 pins in their last leg, C&G kept their nerve to score 55 pins to win the game.

For C&G, Dave Orton scored 40 (incl 14 stack); Jay Attwater 36 (12 stack); and Angela Guest 33.

Best for The Borough was Scott Few with 43 (13 stack) to be one of the league’s joint leading individual scorer; Steve Court 37 and Tab Richards 34. Stacks also came from Brian Richards (12) & Archie Richards (11).

Jumbo Jets Set ended Nomads 100% start to the season with a comfortable win. After the first two legs, Jumbo Jets were 17 pins ahead before Nomads took leg three and reduce their deficit to 13 pins. But when Nomads made only a modest score in leg four, Jumbo Jet’s response was a 67 pin leg score to build a lead of 29 pins. Jumbo Jets then put the game beyond Nomads’ reach by scoring 65 pins in their last leg. Left wanting a daunting 95 pins to win, Nomads were never likely to make that, but credit to them for also making a last leg score of 65 to salvage another half point.

Jumbo Jets top scorer was Mick Stanton with 43 (12 stack) to be the league’s other leading joint individual scorer. Dennis Compton and Rob Quartly chipped in with 36 &35 respectively.

Skipper Alan Cummings, for Nomads, made 37 and team mates Jim Child 35 and Phil Jones 34.

It is now two wins on the trot for Lodge Farmers who take over the league’s top spot. Against Bernie’s Bolts, they won the first three legs by four, four & five pins to lead at that stage by 13 pins before The Bolts hit back in leg four taking it by eight pins. Lodge Farmers then scored 61 pins in their last leg to leave The Bolts wanting a tricky 67 pins to win, but although starting brightly, they eventually fell short.

For Lodge Farmers, Chris Angel made 39; Tim Jones 37; and Richard Long & Jamie McGill 34 each.

Top scoring for Bernie’s Bolts was Jess Andrews with 36 to be the league’s leading lady individual top scorer; Dan Goodman 34 and Mark Andrews 33.

And a quirky statistic from the week’s games was that four players set up the chance of big stacks only to miss with the third ball. But a nine stack is not to be sniffed at and most of us only wish we could score nine  - if only once! So very bad luck to Scott Few, Jess Andrews, Tab Richards & Mick Stanton (twice), who all nevertheless went on to score well for their teams.
