Top Three All Lose!

First to lose were Nomads who went down, if only by a single pin, to Bernie’s Bolts who at last registered their first win of the season. After falling 12 pins adrift in leg one, Nomads fought back to level the game after completion of leg three. The Bolts then recovered in leg four to lead again, this time by nine pins. Nomads bowled first in the last legs and finally set The Bolts wanting a not too difficult 58 pins to win. But indifferent scoring left their last man Craig McSweeney to rescue the situation. Needing to take all nine pins to get them over the line, he duly delivered for a relieved Bolts team. Best scorers for The Bolts were Dan Goodman with 38 (incl 12 stack); Paul Blayney 37 (11 stack); and Andy Gill-Smith 36. For Nomads, Mac Eaton made 37 (12 stack); Eddie Upright (also 37); and Jordan Bunn 35.

It was Engineers, with their lowest score of the season, to next take a tumble - going down against C&G Show. The teams shared the first leg before C&G took the next three legs for a seemingly comfortable and unbeatable 24 pin lead. Engineers then made the best leg score of the game, but this still left C&G wanting only 47 for victory. But C&G found good scoring difficult and nearly threw the game away and it needed another last bowler, Dave Orton, to keep his nerve, to get them over the line. Shining for C&G were Lily Orton finishing with 36 (11 stack), Jay Attwaters also 36; and 34 each from James Pineer and Angela Guest. Engineers had Luke Sanders making 41 (14 stack); and Andy Clewlow & Brandon Kelso 36 apiece.

Finally, it was Lodge Farmers turn to come unstuck. Opponents Jumbo Jets were quickly out of the blocks, when the game’s first bowler, Rich Johnston made a 15 stack. Jumbo Jets finished that first leg with 74 pins to which Farmers’ worst leg score of the game left them 22 pins adrift. Jumbo Jets, on their way to their highest score of the season, also won legs two and three to increase their lead to 28 pins. Lodge Farmers at last recovered but could only reduce their deficit by a single pin when winning leg four and were finally left a mammoth 86 pins in their last leg to salvage a win. They rarely looked likely to do this but picked up another consolation point by winning the leg. Rich Johnston top scored for Jumbo Jets with 40, and Darren Summers & Mick Stanton made 38 & 36 respectively. Farmers’ best with 33 each were Mark Reason & Jamie McGill and 32 each from Lynne Pemberton & Sue Morris.
